Next Plague Will Come From The Tropics

Hi Everyone!
I just came across an interesting article that posits that the next devastating plague will originate from the tropics, as man and wildlife are ever increasingly pushed together. My comment is that if mankind, as a whole, and individually, treated animals more humanely, and with more insight, this kind of catastrophe would have a much lower chance of occurring. On a more cheery note, I am really digging all these posts! See you tomorrow for our viewing by the Provost.

I would definatelly agree.
I think that the more we avoid certain areas the more likely we are to come in contact with them. THe tropics are full of possible dangers and diseases; however, it is also where we get a majority of the plants and derivatives that we make modern medicine out of. So, if we took to the roots and lived with it, we would be less likely to freak out about a plague coming from the tropics and focus on the outweighing health benefits that come from it as well.
To me, the frightening image of the tropics spreading death and encroaching on man sounds like a pitch to convince people that destroying the tropics for "healths sake" is ok and increasing living space for modern man is a necessity..
-Whats wrong with "man and wild life [being] every incresingly pushed together?" (Other than our natural tendancy to degrate pretty things..other than that) I think it would be nice.. Most of us like our campus because it is so a part of nature.. Why cant nature and people go together??
