Kids, animals, and film.

In today's film market we are sure to find a number of films that will always be hitting big in the box office. Among these genres of film, and with the advancement of computer technology, we've seen PIXAR always in the spot light. The reason I bring this up is because most, if not all, are movies targeted at children. So there were a few questions that I wanted to pose to you all, mostly in regards to these films, and the viewer ship it contains.
1) How do you think animals are represented in these films?
2) Through the scope of the child viewer, how do you think they respond to the animals, during and after the film?

we briefly talked a little bit about this in class one day in regards to "Charlotte's Web" and how the child viewer acknowledges Wilbur as a being, but no other farm animal.

3) How do you think the child viewer responds differently between a CG animal film, and a live action film with animals (BABE, the new Charlotte's Web)?

-PIXAR films include: Finding Nemo, Bugs Life, Ratatouille (and others)
-Other CG animal films: Over The Hedge, The Wild, etc

well I wish I could write more, but I have to go. I would love to get some conversation going, and respond then.

I'm not that stoked on some of the animal characters in children's cartoon...for instance the personification of the shark in the picture that was posted as a "bad" shark...only inflames peoples hatred for a beautiful animals that is merely misunderstood.

But to tell you the truth I have a bigger problem with cartoons such as Disney's CARS. I've never seen it personally, but it seems to just make kids love cars in a time when all human on earth should be thinking about alternate forms of transportation. At least when kids watch a cartoon with animals they develop a love for them...

I can see this developing into other problems though...like a child wanting a wild animal as a pet. There are so many sad cases of wild animals kept in houses and abused when they become to big/wild to take care of...such as full grown alligators found in a few inches of water in people's bath tubes.
